Foodscaping inspired by Permaculture Ethos & Practices

It’s about the magical moment when you dig your hands in the earth and your to-do list melts away. A silent knowing settles in as you re-member your connection with those who have come before. Pollinators, water catchment systems, and soil remediation restore vitality to the land you live on. You resume your place as a synergetic member of a living, breathing, ecosystem where you belong.

“Food and medicine are not two different things: they are the front and back of one body.”

— Masanobu Fukuoka, The One-Straw Revolution

About me:

I come from a long line of farmers in New Jersey and NE Montana. I learned to build berms, plant trees, and plant a kitchen garden with my mother and father as a child. We had an orange grove and kept honeybees. I followed my Mother around the garden eating green tomatoes. Then we moved to suburbia and I lost touch of the farming lifestyle for many years. But as my family says about me, “You can take the girl from the farm but you can’t take the farm outta the girl.”

As an adult, I took art and landscape architecture classes at the University of Washington. I was able to volunteer at a CSA farm, Jubilee Biodynamic Farm in Carnation, WA, where I learned organic vegetable gardening methods. I worked at Ecohaus, which at the time in Seattle, was revolutionary for offering sustainable building materials of all sorts, including FSC certified lumber, sustainable finishes, tile, wool carpet, and natural earth plaster, of which I taught DIY clay plastering classes for many years.

I’ve built 4 personal gardens and 1 community pea patch in the last 15 years, as well as designed and consulted on friends and family’s properties across the state. I enjoy designing private and community landscapes that are rewarding to steward, resilient to climate change, and feed not only your belly, they feed and nourish your soul.
